The VW Golf 8 R (type CD, from model year 2020, including facelift and Variant) is one of the most-tuned models in the UpgradeMyCar range. This guide shows which parts are actually available for this model – with real brands and prices from our shop, not vague promises.
Sound & Exhaust: Milltek
For the Golf 8 R we stock the complete Milltek sports exhaust system with tailpipe trims (from €2,660, up to €3,487 depending on the tailpipe version). If you only want to replace the downpipe section: Milltek downpipe without catalytic converter (€858), Milltek HJS 200-cell downpipe incl. OPF replacement pipe (€1,492) or the higher-grade Milltek HJS ECE downpipe (€3,278). Important: the “without cat” version removes the catalytic converter and is intended exclusively for motorsport/track day use, not for use on public roads.
Exhaust Valve Control for Variable Sound
Without modifying the standard exhaust system, the sound can be adjusted via exhaust valve control: ASR exhaust valve control RX1 (€299) as well as ASR CB2 GEN 2 and ASR CB2 (€425 each) – available separately for pre-facelift and facelift models.
Suspension: KW Suspensions
For the Golf 8 R suspension we rely on KW Suspensions: the KW DDC Plug & Play coilover kit (€2,755) for vehicles with factory-fitted adaptive dampers, classic coilover kits from V1 (€1,260) and V2 (€1,648) to V3 (€2,123, also available for the Variant) as well as the V3 Clubsport incl. top mounts (€3,127) for track day use.
Intake & Air Filters
For sharper throttle response and intake sound we stock the Eventuri carbon intake system (€1,640). A more affordable entry point is the BMC sports air filter FB756/20 (€68).
Performance: ECU Tuning
For more power we offer the DTE Systems PowerControl X – suitable for both the 320 PS and the 333 PS version of the Golf 8 R 4MOTION (€899 each).
Brakes
Braided steel brake lines from Fischer-Hydraulik (from €148) provide a firmer pedal feel with the performance brakes.
Aerodynamics: Maxton Design
The widest choice is in styling – with dedicated parts for pre-facelift and facelift models. Maxton Design supplies, among other things, front lips/front splitters in seven versions (V.1 to V.7, €199, with flaps €249) as well as separate front lips for the facelift (V.1 to V.3, €199–249), side skirt extensions (V.1 to V.3 and Street Pro, €169–249), rear diffusers in several versions (€169–194), rear side splitters (V.1 to V.8, €69–124, some with flaps) and spoiler caps in 2D and 3D versions (€144–164).
Important Note on Road Legality
Milltek downpipes without a catalytic converter are generally not permitted on public roads in Germany and the EU and are intended purely for motorsport/track day use. Before buying, please check whether and how a product is road legal in your country – unlike our exhaust valve controls, many of which are TÜV-compliant, this is fundamentally not the case for downpipes without a catalytic converter.

Which KW suspension fits the VW Golf 8 R?
Vehicles with factory-fitted adaptive dampers (DCC) use the KW DDC Plug & Play. For conventional suspension the KW V3 is the right choice, and for track day use the V3 Clubsport with top mounts.
Is the Milltek sports exhaust for the Golf 8 R road legal?
