Milltek Sport exhaust systems They are known for their distinctive sound and the use of high-quality, non-magnetic stainless steel. Precise alignment during installation is crucial to ensure the system sits without tension and the sound is reproduced perfectly.

🛠️ Preparation & Required tools

Changing an exhaust system on a Milltek is often just a matter of "screwing things together" thanks to their precise manufacturing. You will need:

  • Lifting platform or pit: Working on the ground is not recommended due to the length of the exhaust system.

  • socket wrench & Wrench set: Mostly 13mm, 15mm and 17mm for the clamps.

  • Exhaust rubber clamp or mounting lever: To remove the holders from the rubber without frustration.

  • Copper paste or anti-seize compound: For lubricating screw connections (facilitates later corrections).

  • Pipe cutter (optional): If the original system (for subsystems from the catalytic converter) needs to be cut at a marked point.

⚙️ Technical focus: Stress-free alignment

Stainless steel expands more when heated than normal steel.

  • From the turbo to the rear: Work your way from front to back. Only tighten the clamps completely when the entire system is perfectly seated in the rubber mounts and the tailpipes are exactly centered in the diffuser.

  • Flap control: For systems with a valve function, the original actuators often need to be reused. Ensure the correct positioning of the drive spring.

  • Tightness: Use high-quality exhaust clamps (often included). We recommend additionally sealing the connection points with a thin layer of assembly paste.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • Do I need to register? Many Milltek systems feature a EC type approval (ECE). These do not require registration. "Race" systems (non-resonated) are usually intended only for export or motorsport.

  • What is the difference between "Resonated" and "Non-Resonated"? Resonated systems have a center muffler (quieter/more suitable for everyday use), non-resonated systems do without one (louder/more aggressive).

  • Does the stainless steel discolor? Yes, that's due to thermal effects ("heat discoloration"). It doesn't affect the quality; in fact, it's a sign of genuine performance use.

🏎️ Professional tips for Milltek installations

Theme Expert advice
Tailpipe alignment The tailpipes should be positioned approximately 5-10 mm further "in" when cold, as the system moves back a bit due to thermal expansion when operating temperature is reached.
Exhaust rubbers Check the original rubber mounts for cracks. For heavy-duty systems, we recommend reinforced Powerflex rubber mounts for a more secure fit.
Downpipe installation When replacing the downpipe, be sure to use new gaskets for the turbocharger to avoid exhaust fumes in the interior.
